NETFLIX SHOWS TO WATCH THIS OCTOBER

With the loss of our most beloved show this year – Stranger Things – I have decided to compile a list of TV shows that you can and should watch in replacement. Of course, if you want to re-watch ST 1 & 2, then please, I’m not going to hold you back! However, if you’re looking for something new, keep reading and let me hopefully introduce you to some of the best shows on Netflix to watch this October!

Riverdale

Riverdale is one of the most perfect shows to watch in October – specifically because every season is also released in October – and has all the autumnal/creepy vibes to it. With the on-going mysteries and deaths throughout each season, it is a great choice to watch for the month of Halloween, alongside the wonderful colour grading that gives it that autumnal spin. Also, who doesn’t love a good teen drama and an outstanding cast?

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

There’s not a lot I can say about this one yet – as it currently isn’t out yet – however, it is probably the most highly anticipated Netflix show of October this year and we have absolutely every right to be hyped for this reboot! Made by the creators of Riverdale, they’re taking the light-hearted 90’s show and turning it in to our worst nightmare. I once read a sentence describing the show which said, “Forget Sabrina the Teenage Witch and think Buffy the Vampire Slayer”. Filled with witchcraft, demons and darkness, this is once again another perfect autumnal/Halloween watch for October!

Out October 26th.

Gossip Girl

GG comes under the autumnal category more than the horror – although I suppose there was a couple of horror moments such as; Jenny Humphrey, Dan and Blair dating, Rufus and Ivy, Chuck and Jenny, Georgina Sparks, Juliet Sharp, Prince Louis, etc. etc. Every season is set over the time period of a year, allowing us to feel the Autumn/Halloween vibes eventually and who doesn’t love a Saints & Sinners party? This show can be watched at any time of the year, but what’s more better than getting curled up in bed, wrapped up in a dressing gown, hot chocolate in hand, the sound of rain pattering on the windows, soaking up all the drama? Absolutely nothing.

Also, it is my all-time favourite TV show and I will recommend this show even when not appropriate. Go binge-watch now!

Gilmore Girls

So much of Gilmore Girls is set in the Autumn/Winter time, making this the most appropriate fit for October. These two ladies are always curled up on the sofa watching their favourite movies, heading off to Luke’s in need of their coffee, and just getting involved with all the festivities surrounding them. It’s an easy binge-watch and a perfect show to put on in the background whilst you get on with your work – but be warned, you may get slightly distracted by the will-they-won’t-they of Lorelai and Luke. You may also need to keep an eye on the screen sometimes, in order to catch up on who Rory’s current boyfriend is… Team Dean? Team Jess? Team Logan? By the end, I was certainly Team Logan!

Once Upon A Time

OUAT? An October watch? I know what you’re thinking, but this is not your typical Disney-Happy-Ending kind of TV show. OUAT takes a dark spin on our favourite Disney fairytales and the aesthetics are the most perfect Halloween/Autumnal vibes you’ll find for this month. Our favourite villains; Rumplestiltskin, Cruella De Ville, Maleficent, Ursula, Lady Tremaine, etc. travel from The Enchanted Forest to Storybrooke to take what’s theirs, cast curse after curse and hurt the lives of our loved ones. There’s so many plot twists within this realm that bring these fairy-tale characters together in ways you wouldn’t even guess. I absolutely adore this show and this is one of my faves for character development – especially for the villains. A cosy and dark watch for the month of Halloween, get your PJ’s on, a hot chocolate and indulge in the life of make-believe.

American Horror Story

If you’re a true horror fan and want to get in to the nitty, gritty, gore this October, then AHS is hands down the right watch for you! Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, Hotel, Roanoke, Cult and Apocalypse – these are the names of the seasons Ryan Murphy has blessed us with over the past eight years and if you were frightened of everything before, you’re going to be one tough cookie after binge-watching these. Just not at night, okay? I beg you.ย AHS has absolutely no chill when it comes to showing you the gore in the most detailed way possible. You know those movies where someone dies, but you don’t actually see the gore of them dying? Well you are definitely not going to get that here. You are about to see every detail and damn, you are going to cringe and squirm. But, is it all worth it? Heck yeah it is! With the story-lines and the cast alone, you’re not going to want to turn this one down and what better show to watch if you’re wanting to go full Halloween this year?

Bates Motel

Another perfect one for the month of October – based on the 1959 novel and 1960 movie, ‘Psycho’ – Norman Bates and his mother, Norma Bates, move to White Pine Bay to open up their motel, ‘Bates Motel’. Norman and Norma share a very close relationship, which forges a serial killer within Norman. If you love psychological thrillers, you’re going to love this one. Norman begins to believe that he is his mother, due to blackouts and tries to have his mother committed for crimes she didn’t commit. The aesthetics in this show are so creepy and autumnal, that this one couldn’t be a more better pick for those cosy and dark evenings curled up on the sofa or tucked up in bed.

Pretty Little Liars

PLL can have some pretty terrifying moments when it comes to being tortured by A and with Halloween just around the corner, it is the perfect time to re-watch and binge-watch for all the thrills and chills you’re going to need. This is the show to have you on the edge of your seat at all times, with one eye open and all the lights in the house on. If you’re an extremely patient person and would like to solve the biggest mystery on TV – this couldn’t be more of a perfect watch for you this Fall!

Teen Wolf

If you know me, I like to creep the words ‘Dylan O’Brien’ in to literally any sentence of my daily life. So, when I decided to do a round-up of the best shows to watch during October, Teen Wolf was obviously going to be on that list. We’re getting to the Supernatural side of October now, with Werewolves, Ghost Riders, The Nogistune, Berserkers, Dread Doctors, and plenty more. An amazing remake of the movie ‘Teen Wolf’, this teen drama will have you hooked from start to finish. The cast is phenomenal, the characters are lovable and the romances are eye-heart emojis! Just be prepared to get attached to these characters, only to have your heart-broken.

The Vampire Diaries

Moving on to my favourite Supernatural creatures – Vampires, with a slight dose of Werewolves. The right amount of gore and chills to scare you. A fast paced show with so many twists and turns that will keep you on your toes for the entire eight seasons, and cliffhangers for almost every episode to make you come back for more. Be prepared to love the bad and the good guys – except Kai (if you know, then you know), because these characters have some of the greatest character developments in TV (*cough* Enzo *cough*). I can’t even say there’s going to be a romance you’re going to hate either, because the right people always end up getting together. While it is an extremely dark show, there’s still an element of fun and they do have a talent of making you feel all happy before ripping your hearts out. The scenery is also so incredibly asthetic, I mean… I definitely wouldn’t mind living in Mystic Falls even with all the Vampires lurking the streets. Plus, the Vampires are extremely hot… Sorry, not sorry.

The Originals

The incredible spin-off to The Vampire Diaries, and I have to say, this one definitely has a very special place in my heart. Whilst Vampires are still the talk of the town in New Orleans, we now have the addition of Hybrids, Werewolves and Witches. I do believe this can be watched without having to watch TVD – if you’re not down for dedicating your time to eight whole seasons – but, what I would suggest is doing a background check on some of the guest appearances, just so you know what they’re there for and you’re not completely lost. The aesthetics are flawless on this show and really have that autumnal look to it. This time round, you’re going to love the bad guys and possibly hate the good guys – trust me, this is the first time I’ve been so protective over characters that you should hate, but it’s just not possible. The diversity in this show is also very refreshing and don’t really miss out anyone. The females also kick ass big time in this show and rule more than the men.ย The high school drama is long gone with these characters – unlike those in TVD – and it focuses more on the dysfunction of our favourite family. Did I mention that everyone’s as hot as the cast in TVD? No? Well they most certainly are.

iZombie

I can’t believe I almost forgot to mention iZombie – it literally is one of my all-time favourite shows on Netflix! This feel-good comedy-drama, follows Liv Moore, a zombie who fights crime. After Liv is bit during a zombie attack, she takes on the powers of eating the brains of murder victims and adopting their personalities, in order to have visions and solve her victims murders. I absolutely adore this show; it is hilarious, always has you smiling and the actress who plays Liv is phenomenal at portraying so many different types of people in every episode. There’s not really a character either that you will despise, and even if you do despise someone, they never really last that long anyway – but between all the main characters, you’re going to love them! Ravi is most likely going to become the hilarious doctor-genius best friend you’ve always wanted and just WAIT for all the food porn you’re going to witness when Liv turns brains in to the most delicious meals.

Have you watched any of these or plan to? Let me know in the comments!

I’m not a big fan of scary movies or TV shows, but several on this list are doable for me. Thanks!

Aw I know what you mean – I’m absolutely terrible with scary movies/TV shows, but I promise, these are bearable! I’m glad you found several that will work for you though ๐Ÿ™‚ x

I’m face and eyes into Riverdale atm. Great show. As someone who use to read the comics growing up, this show is really different – and it works! Can’t wait to get further into the series.

Bates Motel was amazing – I finished that one last year. Highly recommended as well. Although, it’s hard to get into The Good Doctor now because I only see Norman Bates and can’t get into the new character being portrayed.

American Horror Show lost me last season (Umm, that was the political one, right?) I haven’t totally given up, but it’s taking me a lot longer to binge that season and get caught up.

With the Vampire Diaries and The Originals I have some catching up to do. I stopped watching the season of Vampire Diaries before The Originals debuted. Ugh, that’s going to be a sick day or snow day binge for sure.

I’m glad you’re enjoying Riverdale, I absolutely love that show and I have to agree, they really make it work, especially with how different the comics are!

I’ve still got the final episode to watch, but I’ve loved the show so much, it never disappoints! I loveeee The Good Doctor and I think I took to his new character well because he’s so much nicer than Norman haha!

You know what, same! I still haven’t finished the last season yet because I couldn’t get in to it, but everyone seems to be loving Apocalypse, so I might just skip Cult altogether and just get on with this new season!

Oh wow yeah, if you stopped TVD before The Originals premiered then you’re definitely a little behind! I can’t say that TVD get’s better because honestly, it does begin to slack the closer to the final it gets, however, The Originals is fantastic start to finish – I’d advise just getting on with that one! x

I didn’t really watch Sabrina the Teenage Witch all the way through, but I do remember watching episodes here and there, so although I’m probably not as hyped as the OG’s, I’m still very excited to see what it has to offer! x
