Christmas is coming and best friends Chloe, Jules, and Lucy are needing change… so swapping homes for the holidays could be the perfect present for all of them!
Australian Chloe spends her Christmas in a sleepy village in Oxfordshire, England. She is totally star-struck when she discovers who lives across the road.
Lucy, who has jetted off to snowy Colorado for her dream-come-true white Christmas, is taken into the fold of Jules’s loud and brash family, discovering more about herself in a few short days than she has in years.
And Jules leaves the cold climes of Colorado to spend her Christmas on a beach with Chloe’s friends in Melbourne, finding that time away is just what she needed.
Where do I even start with this absolutely fabulous read!?
The Christmas Swap introduces us to three ladies; Lucy, Chloe and Jules – best friends, living across the world from one another. Lucy has always dreamed of a white Christmas, Chloe has always dreamed of a traditional Christmas and Jules has always dreamed of a sunny Christmas.
Let’s start off with Lucy – spending every year myself filled with British traditions and rain instead of snow, I totally understood Lucy’s desperation to venture out in to the world and Colorado was the most perfect destination! Colorado was where Lucy was going to be spending Christmas with her best friend, Jules’ family and they were so delightful. I loved how she got to experience it the way we all dream of – lots of snow and an attempt at snow-boarding! Jules’ family welcomed Lucy in immediately with open arms and made her feel like she was their own. She settled in extremely fast, lending a hand here and there when needed, even having a few heart to hearts here and there with some. The blossoming romance between herself and Jules’ brother, Will, had it’s complexities, however, they were that smitten by one another, I hope they make it through and live happily ever after!
I think out of all the three girls, Chloe had to be my most favourite. Swapping her hot Australian Christmases for a traditional British one, she really had no idea what to expect and who to expect. It was very British of Chloe to have spent about five minutes in the country, before being pushed in to helping out with the community and whilst she may have not signed up for that part of the holiday, it was the best thing that could have happened to her. Who would have ever thought she’d bump in to one of the biggest stars? Chloe and Archer connected immediately, there were no doubts about that. Their relationship was never going to be simple, with him being in the spotlight, however, Archer wasn’t going to let the fame, the press and people in his world, chase Chloe away. I absolutely adored the outcome that Sandy had given these two gorgeous characters and I can only hope that we get to meet again sometime and see where life has taken them.
Jules’ swap from Colorado to Australia was definitely the most new and intriguing experience for myself to read about. I have never been to Australia and before this book, had absolutely no idea how they spent their Christmas, so Jules’ chapters for myself were extremely insightful. Their Christmases aren’t so different from any other, besides when it comes to the food. The food options were most certainly not what I had expected from a Christmas Day meal, however, I would absolutely love to go and experience it for myself now! Jules and Matt, I think, definitely connected on a much deeper level than the others to start, as they were both meeting amongst healing their hearts, therefore, their romance was slow-burning and neither wanted to rush. Seeing Jules in Australia with Chloe’s – and now her – friends, it was like she was made to live there all along and this swap came at the most perfect time for her to realise it. She was in need of a massive change and she was loving every moment in this new country, especially her time with Matt. The ending Sandy gave these two was so heart-warming and I was over the moon with their choices.
The whole concept of The Christmas Swap was so perfectly created by Sandy and a movie in the making. I loved getting to travel back and fourth between sunny beaches, snowy mountains and small English towns. They were the most glorious locations to escape to, exploring and learning new traditions and meeting some gorgeous side characters, along with our leading ladies and men. I adored those extra chapters we got of the three girls getting in touch and keeping each other up to date with their new adventures. Their friendship dealt with a small handful of bumps, however their dynamic was true to reality and I could only wish to have what they have! Lucy, Chloe and Jules are three characters that you will love from the first chapter, you will only wish them happiness throughout this entire book and I can only hope that we will be seeing these ladies again in the future. There is just so much more to explore between them and their new lives/relationships.
This is the perfect festive treat for you all this Christmas period. If you’re a lover of romance and travel, Sandy Barker is the author for you and she never disappoints!
