Laurie Morgan runs a café in the small seaside community of Mermaids Point, named after the beauties rumoured to live in the waters a few miles off the top of the point. When a hazy image is posted online of what appears to be a mermaid, the café and the village are soon full to bursting with curious sightseers.
The most eye-catching of the new arrivals is handsome author, Jake Smith, who has rented a cottage for the summer while he works on his new book. Or so he says. In fact, he is a journalist, burned out and disillusioned with life, whose editor has sent him on a crack-pot hunt for mermaids…
Jake quickly finds himself drawn to village life, and to the gorgeous woman who runs the local café. But he soon suspects there’s trouble lurking beneath the idyllic façade, and when it looks like Laurie’s family might be involved, Jake faces a difficult choice. Pursue the truth, or protect the woman he’s beginning to fall in love with…
I can’t believe this is my first Sarah Bennett book – what have I been doing with my life!? I immediately knew that this was going to be a highly anticipated 2021 book for me, just based off of the extremely stunning book cover and title. I completely fell in love with the beautiful village of Mermaids Point and I found it so exciting that there were rumours of Mermaid’s living within the waters, especially when an influx of visitors came through to get a glimpse of the mythical creatures for themselves. Whilst we all know the chances of seeing a mythical creature was extremely low, the thought of it all had the village and the local businesses booming with tourists and eventually led to our handsome journalist joining in on the intrigue.
Our leading lady Laurie, who runs the village’s beloved café, was a really lovely character and I warmed up to her immediately. I can totally see why our leading male, Jake, was determined to get to know the gorgeous woman as soon as he laid eyes on her! Jake was the most gorgeous leading male character, I could not stop swooning over the determination that was within him to spend time with Laurie and the intimate moments between them as their relationship progressed were just perfect in every single way! He is the most dreamy man I have had the pleasure of coming across in a book. Can I please have him? I think he might just be my most favourite book boyfriend!!
I think it’s safe to say that this has been my most favourite read of 2021 so far. I adored every single character, the story had every bit of power to keep you enthralled and invested until the final page and it was a really beautiful journey of finding happiness for both Laurie and Jake. I really enjoyed the secondary characters and would love to get to know more about them in future stories, especially Laurie’s Aunt – she definitely has a story that needs to be told! Summer Kisses at Mermaids Point is the most beautiful storyline, gorgeously written, filled with romance, drama and the most fascinating Mermaid story that I couldn’t get enough of! I was so entranced throughout the chapter in which Laurie was telling Jake the story of the mermaid and her love – it was heart-breaking and beautiful all in the same breath. Everybody needs to hear it and everybody needs to pick up this book, immediately!
