Clover Philips is exactly where she’s meant to be – back home on Jewel Island teaching dance to the guests at the beautiful Sapphire Bay Hotel that she co-owns with her sisters Skye and Aria. Her life is complete, except for one thing…
When Clover left London she also left behind a devastating betrayal. She hasn’t been able to date anyone since, let alone allow herself to fall in love. What she needs is a casual fling to ease herself back into romance. And as luck would have it, the very handsome Angel Mazzeo is back in town.
The chemistry between Clover and Angel has been undeniable ever since Angel first arrived on Jewel Island six months ago. And though content to be her friend till now, Angel is more than willing to help Clover find her dating feet again.
It should be easy to keep things carefree when love is off the table, but when every moment is magical what started as casual soon becomes something much deeper. Will Clover and Angel find the courage to tell each other how they really feel? And is Clover ready to do the one thing she swore she’d never do again, fall in love?
What an absolute delight it is to be back on Jewel Island, with the most wonderful of characters. I read this book on a day that truly felt like Autumn, really setting the scene of Clover and Angel’s story much more for me. This time of year, in the build-up to Christmas, truly is the most magical and Holly captures the essence of that perfectly, as usual, in her latest book ‘Autumn Skies over Ruby Falls‘.
In the first book of the series, we were introduced to the lovely Aria and Noah, in which you can read my review for that here. In the second book of the series, Holly follows on the story of one of Aria’s twin sisters, Clover, and I have to say, my favourite sister between the three. I see a lot of myself in Clover and relate to her in more ways than one. Clover is an extremely guarded woman, who has been horrifically hurt in the past, now struggling to open her heart up again, no matter how much it is telling her that she must do so. She is such a darling character, who you truly will only wish the best for and there is no one who can make that happen, besides the gorgeous, Angel.
I fell in love with Angel when we first met him throughout Aria and Noah’s story – his quirky t-shirts, the back and fourth winding up between him and Noah, the gentleness within him. He really is the perfect package. In this story, we are blessed to be given a more in-depth look in to the world of Angel and if I didn’t think I could love him more than I already did, Holly was sure to find a way. The patience he held with Clover was heart-warming and admirable. He knew her heart had been stomped on and he knew there were boundaries, which he never stepped over once. Once hearing the cause of Clover’s heartache, he did everything he possibly could to give her the romantic experience she deserved, whether that be as friends, or more. It was extremely painful to see the chemistry and sparks flying between the two, knowing there was so much trauma standing in their way, however, time is a blessing when it comes to healing and that was what Angel was going to give Clover – time. Time to heal from her past, time to appreciate romance without any strings attached, time to let her heart open again.
What I especially loved about this book, besides Clover learning to love again, with Angel as her support, was all of the festivities that took place, in the village and up at the hotel. The Halloween events especially, seemed like a ball of fun and I was eager to jump in to the book and join in. One festivity in particular, brought even more happiness to a certain couple that had my eyes watering a little. I would also like to mention how happy I was to hear about the marriage of two characters I have previously fallen in love with in another book of Holly’s. I always appreciate that Holly always keeps us up to date.
Every page was so beautiful to experience and I say that with every one of Holly’s books, she is just so magical with her words and stories. If there’s ever a time to pick up this book, it is most certainly now. With Autumn officially arriving in just a few weeks, the stunning story of Clover and Angel will set the scene and get you in the mood for everything Autumn has to offer. Get cosy with a hot chocolate, or a pumpkin latte, and allow yourself to fall in love. Now, roll on to when we get the story of Skye and Jesse!
