[BLOG TOUR] AUTHOR INTERVIEW: NIKKI LECLAIR TALKS ‘CATS, CHAOS AND CONDO BOARD WARS’

I am so excited to say that we have another interview on the blog today with the lovely author, Nikki LeClair, as part of her release launch & blog tour that kicked off two days ago on March 20th. Not only did I get to talk some more about the wonderful ‘Cats, Chaos & Condo Board Wars’ with Nikki herself for the blog tour, I also got the opportunity to read her book before it’s release and have also just published my full review of it on the blog.

Read my full review of ‘Cats, Chaos & Condo Board Wars’ here.

Without further ado, let’s get in to the interview:

Welcome to BreakfastAtShelbys, I’m so honoured to have you on here! Why don’t we kick start this interview off with you telling us a bit about yourself?

My name is Nikki LeClair and I’m a writer of Chicklit, and Cozy Mysteries. I’m a bit of a true crime buff, binge-watching enthusiast, and produce/narrate audiobooks on the side.

What or who inspired you to become a writer?

Hmm, would have to be Sophie Kinsella, I read the first shopaholic book when I was 13, so almost twenty years ago! Other than that, it would have to be my English college professor who encouraged me to really look into writing even part time.

‘Cats, Chaos and Condo Board Wars’ is your latest release – Congratulations! Can you tell my readers – who may not have had the opportunity to hear about it yet – what it’s about?

Cats, Chaos and Condo Board Wars is about event planner Hilary, whose trying to score a big fish and at the same time run in her condo buildings election against a really horrible woman. She’s also putting herself in a bit of a love triangle which was honestly very fun to write. The election was a complete riot to write as well, the things Hilary and her opponent do to each other is a bit ridiculous.

What inspired you to write about a Condo Board War? I found the whole story-line so fascinating, juicy and extremely gripping!

I use to live in Toronto, my first apartment was in a condo building, and I remembered all the silly stories my room-mates or neighbours would tell me about the condo board association. I still hear stories like that from other friends who live in condo buildings in the city. What sparked this story was a story about a temporary ban on Chinese food in one of my friend’s buildings. Didn’t last very long!

All of the characters involved in your story were so wonderful to read about in one way or another, even Glover! Who was your favourite character(s) to write about besides your leading lady?

I would have to say it was a cross between Hilary’s partner in crime Eli, and condo board president Glover for sure.

What does a day to day life look like for you when writing ‘Cats, Chaos and Condo Board Wars’?

There was a lot of angry pop music floating around my writing room haha! Lots of Taylor Swift, Alanis Morissette. All Girl power stuff. My daughters LOVED it. A nice change from the 80’s I usually listen to when writing haha.

Which scene in the book was your favourite to write about?

For effect, I like Hilary’s freak out scene in the elevator towards Neal. But honestly, the scenes that made me laugh the most are the scenes between Eli and Hilary.

If you could describe ‘Cats, Chaos and Condo Board Wars’ in three words, what would they be?

Ridiculous, Fun, Engaging!

Lastly, do you have any book news to share with us? Are any in the works?

I do have some! I’m finishing the 3rd book in the Edie Edwards Series (formally the Haunting Me series) and it will be released in the fall before Halloween. For those already asking for a sequel for Cats, Chaos and Condo Board Wars, I make NO promises but I am keeping myself open to the possibility should a great idea come up!

Oh how exciting! The Haunting Me series is one of my favourites – I can’t wait for the release of the third! Thank you so much for joining me on the blog and I can’t wait to talk some more soon.

‘Cats, Chaos & Condo Board Wars’ is available for purchase on e-book now.
